To my Godfamily, on this sombre occassion, you do not know me as well as I would have liked, but through this great lady, please know I love you all.

Lynette Armstong took me up as a puking infant to church and promised before man and God to second my mother in my new life. A role she took seriously, she filled my life with adventure, courage, guidance and light. She had one son, for a while at least, I was her daughter and loved me. She showered me with love, not to say I didn’t get a taste of her mouth when I stepped out of line, no Sah, she could give you a tongue lashing like no other.  But she lavished me with love and wisdom and more love. In stiff upper lip England she never held back on love as you, her dear family know well.

Your Mum, grandmother was the most amazing, fierce, and progressive, glamorous woman. She loved life and lived it fiercely. Aunty Lynette, as I called her, was a fashinonista before the word was formed, her cooking would upstage Gordon Ramsey, she was not faint of heart, never shrinking back, to say she was a one of a kind is not enough. She was as beautiful inside as out, people may not realize what a sentimental lady she was, but I knew and loved that part of her.

Death stole her from us like a thief in the night, she wasn’t finished with this life this world and without her the world is irretrivably altered. So I grieve with you, I grieve for you. But my sad address ends here.

If she were here, and through each and every one of you, she is here, she would say, “dont cry for me, I have lived…have one rahtid party and be merry., live your life”

To her family she would say “live up and live every day every minute of this life like someone left the barn gate open and you galloped out.” She would say live the heck out of this life because you only have one life to live.

Go live your lives and live the heck out of it…that’s what she would want you to do. How else do you pay tribute to such a giant of a lady.

    Karen Cleaver-Bascombe, God-Daughter
